I don't know exactly how the files you want are stored. But recently I have been using an on-line service http://vixy.net to grab videos (or just the audio) from Youtube. It will convert into mpeg4 (or mp3 sound). Take a look and see if it is what you need.
I believe they also have an open-source FLV converter.
