Eric, From everything you are saying I would recommend going cisco CCNA/NP. There is always money in networking and the certs will get you through the door someplace. I dont think much else will get you to that earning potential without some serious experience. Once you get your foot in the door somewhere you can branch out and specialize. Its also a good thing to have under your belt for quick dollar contract gigs in times of trouble. That is my 2 cents for what its worth.
