In fact it may be trying to open the last video from a webpage which
requires credentials or was accessed using a login.  like if you watched a
YouTube video logged in and the media player is referencing some URL
indicating such.

Did you ever use "save session" within X.org?  If not, the next thing
I'd suggest is to close "Movie Player" (i.e. probably Totem) after
startup, and then choose "save session" from the shutdown menu.  [You
may have to play with settings to get the menu option to show up.)

Then log out + back in to X and see what happens.
