While I agree that OO.org/LibreOffice will never be 100% compatible (for lots 
of reasons I won't get into), you might be surprised to find that your version 
of OpenOffice/LibreOffice contains support for Visual Basic macros.  The 
versions in Debian do, for instance, because they contain patches, which if I 
remember correctly are from OGo.  ;-)
