First: PartitionMagic 5.0 is still being sold, so it's NOT abandon-ware NOR free in any sense: http://www.amazon.com/Powerquest-PM5ENRCD-PartitionMagic-5-0/dp/B00002S9PT
Partition Magic hadn't been been updated for 2-4 years before Symantec decided to drop the product (even if sealed copies still float around for it). It's so out-of-date I would discourage anyone use it even *if* they have a legitimate copy. PartedMagic (http://partedmagic.com) has, at this point, surpassed anything Symantec's Partition Magic did even at it's final version.
But for that matter, all he probably needs to do is zero out the partition table for the drive so Windows will cease to be confused by unknown partitions (sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/<sdXX> bs=1024 count=100).
But unless you have the required licenses you can't and should not install any OS you DO NOT OWN! Please do not ask for license software as it is illegal to distribute. Any further posts to the list of this nature will not be tolerated. Also please keep in mind that this is a Linux/Open Source email list and keep things on topic.
I think he did say he was restoring Windows with it's recovery CD, somewhere back at the beginning of the topic.
