I still wonder if I am in over my head. Like many patriotic Americans,
I am better at taking things apart than I am in putting them back
together. I figured if I took it apart before I sent away for the
replacement part, the display would have parts numbers and stuff on it
which would take all of the guess work out.

That's pretty typical of laptop repair. Get an ice cube trays and put
the screws in it in the order you take them out.

I found a second video. You wind up half taking the computer
apart because it plugs in under the keyboard. You need to
organize just which screw you too off of where or you won't be
able to get it back together.

I see a video on the internet on the internet on replacing
the display
and it is easy to follow except that it says that the
frame around the
LCD display is held in by Philips screws and I don't see
them. It's a
compaq. Are the screws hidden or does it come apart some
other way,
such as by snapping off?
The screw holes could be covered by small bits of adhesive
material, or
covered by a snap-on bezel. See if you can find disassembly
instructions for
that particular laptop -- that's the best bet as it removes
any guesswork.
