As long as a single person is modifying the document, that might be okay; once 
you need concurrent edits, that's where this solution becomes problematic.

I don't have any actual experience dealing with this area, but to me it sounds 
similar to managing an "inventory" similar to what a Library would do.  The

If you want to try one of these that come pre-packaged for installation, Koha 
have a repository available for Debian and Ubuntu, and VuFind have .deb 
package downloads for Debian.
