Over time you will get use to it, it's actually good if you have to move
from using OS/X on and off since the two are very similar in some areas.

My lighting talk next month will be on Cinnamon
2.0<http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/>( now 100% free of Gnome 3.0
dependencies in that it's a true desktop )
that is delivered via Mint 16 <http://www.www.linuxmint.com/>.
Thus if you use Windows Server and/or Windows 7 I would say Mint 16 with
Cinnamon 2.0 is a more comparable interface methodology.
I have found that Cinnamon solves some issues I've had with Unity and
Gnome, in that you can right-click on any window object and get "sudo" like
options.
By that I mean in Cinnamon I can right click on a directory ( mounted by
root ) and say "open as root" and then after issuing my PW move files to
and from said directory.
Please note that Mint uses the Ubuntu packages, so you will not lose
compatibility.

If on the other had your using Windows 8.x and or OS/X better to stick with
Ubuntu/Unity
