The problem I've found as far as that goes is there is plenty of perfectly-servicable ghardware incapable of running Win8 (PAE and/or NX). Seeing as you can't even GET reasonably priced, legitimate copies of Win7, the last option is recovering old WinVista licenses in order to continue using MSWin. For some time now I've been making his machines dual-boot with MintLinux, and pointing his documents and email directories to the MSWin partition.
