I'm considering setting up Verizon FIOS internet-only service (no TV or phone)
in the house of a relative. The house is one story, 3 BR, < 2000 sq ft, with
basement.

There will be one desktop PC in the basement and one desktop PC in one of the
bedrooms. Neither PC currently has a wireless adapter.

Although I would prefer a wired network, at least one of the PC's will have to
connect via wireless.

Verizon requires that I rent or purchase a Verizon-branded router. AIUI the
Verizon routers are second rate.

Q1: Please recommend a wirelss adapter (either USB or PCIE is OK) that is well
suited to receive a weak signal from a second-rate Verizon-branded router. As
described above, the signal would travel through a floor and multiple walls. I
want to avoid having to purchase a second router to supplement the Verizon-
required router.

Q2: Is it better to place the router in the basement or on the first floor (for
best signal transmission), or does it not matter?
