hook for copy/paste. This is fairly system legal as the string gadgets
already have some hooks, like RAmiga-X to clear. I use the MCP
implementation, but there are more smaller, specific patches to do it.

I don't think that's what was meant: there was a string.mui class replacement
which forced MUI to use the BetterString.mcc class instead. This wasn't
perfect and caused some problems - specifically, maximum string length wasn't
correctly 'translated' from string.mui to betterstring.mcc.
Ideally, Miami would optionally use something like BetterString or TextInput
directly.
