Unfortunately I never did find out what the bug was in my situation, only that
AsimCDFS 3.10 solved the problem. What would happen to me was I would boot the
computer (had the *lovely* IDE internal CDROM sitting next to it on the table, not
towerized) and the APNet card light would be on. When the boot got to 'user-startup'
and specifically to the AsimCDFS stuff, the APNet card light would go 'out' and then
the computer would continue to boot. So for a while, I had to move back to v3.08
until they fixed the problem. They were very good about getting to it, though, it was
only a couple of weeks max.
Dunno about OS 3.5, don't have it yet (but I will in a few weeks!). Another
suggestion might be to 'boot with no startup sequence' to a command prompt, then
assign ENV: to RAM: and then type 'loadwb' to avoid any startup stuff at all (except
maybe WBStartup - can't remember whether those get called by loadwb or not) and then
you will be in WB. at this point, do you still have a 'light'? Then fire up MiamiDX
and test again.
My wager is that you have some odd Amiga hack program or something that doesn't like
your ethernet card. I wager this because if MiamiDX didn't work with ethernet, we
would have heard this way before now, due to the beta having been around so long, and
the release having been grabbed by probably the majority of this list who were using
the beta and then updated their registered copy.
But let us know, yes, this is an interesting problem. The random assortment of Amiga
hack programs nearly all of us are running can cause interesting problems at times to
say the least - I was convinced once that my filesystem on my computer was bad after
running a slew of tests and having WB crash repeatedly, when all it turned out to be
was ARQ. I believe (don't know for sure) that ARQ and ToolsDaemon (haven't ever had a
problem with the latter) run a few slightly illegal hacks to work correctly and that's
probably what 'got' me, I don't run ARQ any more.

It might be something similar! Your situation involves a PCMCIA card and
I am using an Ariadne II, but because of your mail I tried what happened
after a clean boot.
First I booted without startup-sequence and did a couple of basic steps
like setpatch, assign env:, etc. This changed nothing.
Then I booted clean and without any extra steps I started MiamiDX (not
even assigning env:!). For every ENV: requester I choose cancel.
Somehow this helped!!!!! The LED on the hub did not switch to 'OFF' when
the Miami interface went online! With this setup I can ping one machine
in my LAN from the other!
Although this seems pretty strange to me, it seems to be a software
related problem. I'll do some testing tonight and try to locate the
culprit piece of software. If I find something I'll ofcourse share it on
the list.
It couldn't be OS3.5 related could it? :-)
