You should also see some activity on the LEDs when "pinging" from the Amiga.
Check both ends. (i.e. the led at the hub only shows a single direction
(from the computer to the hub) for each cable. Check the LED on each network
card.
FWIW, I'm using 192.168.0.xxx for my LAN without problems.
If you're using Win95, you might try D/L'ing the TCP/IP updates from MS's
site.
For clarity: The "Gateway" is the address that a computer will send a packet
to when it doesn't have any idea where it should go. Therefore, the computer
without the modem should have its gateway set to the computer with the modem,
while the computer with the modem should have it's gateway set to the host
computer at your ISP. (Usually done dynamically on connect.)
Try this: On your PC, go to Start->Run and type in "WINIPCFG". This will
show you all the important TCP/IP settings. If you have more than one
interface (Modem, Network) select the one you're interested in from the
drop-down list.
Does dial-up networking working work from your PC? Can you dial your ISP and
surf the net from your PC? Can you do that from your Amiga? If your PC
doesn't work, delete and re-install the network card driver and TCP/IP
protocol.
(Personally, I'm betting your problem is on the PC side.)
You are changing the settings via the network control panel, not via the text
files in the Windows directory, aren't you?
Post some answers to the above questions, and I'll try to help more.

You must have Miami. IIRC, MiamiDX is required to use multiple interfaces
(i.e. Ethernet and Modem) simultaneously. You should be able to use one _or_
the other without problems though.
