Wrong on both counts.
The MNI driver is simply an alternate driver for the card, which generally
works better for Miami(Dx) use, but has some limitations with respect to
use by other network software.
Cable and DSL modems usually use a 10BaseT hookup, except for some early
ones that used a proprietary card in a PC. The *never* use serial ports,
since serial ports aren't fast enough.
