Are you using the same port-related settings in both cases?
What happens when you try MiamiInit?
Does the port work with a comm program?

Sounds like a bad install. As the documentation says, don't try to
hand-install. Unpack all the needed archives to a scratch directory
tree (*not* to Miami:), and then run the Installer script.

No, it's MiamiDx that's MUI-only. Miami3.2 supports both MUI and
GTLayout.

You probably need the main archive (at least) to get the Installer script.
I'd just unpack everything you want installed and rerun the installation.
I don't recall whether it has a specific "GUI update" option, but it
probably doesn't hurt if not.
