Hi, Everyone --
I'm brand new to this list, so please forgive me if this is a common
question that's been answered many times before.
I've been using Miami 3.2b (registered) for ages with a dialup modem with no
problems. I've just upgraded to a cable modem (with the local Roadrunner
service here in Austin.
I've read the DSL/Cable FAQ on the Nordicglobal site. Roadrunner here is
just plain vanilla TCP/IP requiring only DHCP to connect, according to the
tech support people. No fancy bridging or authentication AFAIK. I have an
Ateonet ISA ethernet card in the Ateo Bus of my towered A1200, by the way.
The issue: I first tried to configure Miami by hand, making all the options
under interface/SANA II Configuration "DHCP". I would attempt to go online,
and Miami would intermittently crash my Amiga.
I then tried running Miami Init. It seemed to work splendidly. I saved the
config, imported it from the pulldown menu, and saved it as the default. I
got online with no trouble. Everything works great, my downloads are really
fast, etc...!
The problem: when I try to go online after my computer's been powered up
from a cold boot, there's a delay of perhaps 5 to 8 seconds after I click
"Online," and then my computer crashes. When this happens, the only
surefire way to fix it is to run Miami Init again, import and save the
settings, and then all's well again and I can get back online.
I've attached the Miami Init Log for in the event that it provides useful
information.
Many thanks for any help you can offer!
Steve
PS: BTW, under the TCP/IP page, host name is checked as Dynamic, and only
ICMP, DHCP and Verify DNS servers are checked.
