If you're Jewish obviously you come from a slave background. Read the Bible, slavery is a common element for people of all color and descent. Go back to your history books, it's almost in every chapter. Bottom line is slavery was never considered as evil as we think of it today. Does that make it right? No, but it explains the mindset and the fact that it existed. What do we do today that our ancestors will think of as barbaric? Correction - slavery was ALWAYS considered evil by those enslaved. It was the enslavers who did not think it evil because it gave them an inexpensive work force (and feed for wild animals).
You'd think so, but stories from the American Indians, who had slaves, and from some of the people in mediterranean countries where it was very common don't indicate that.
Of course they didn't like it, but they thought it was normal not evil. The ones who wrote the stories just seemed to think it was rotten luck that it happened to them.
