I did it with the engine out of the car.  Be prepared to work for it. 

 

The oil baffle was stuck more to the pan than the block, it got slightly
warped as I pried off the pan. IIRC, to straighten it, I had to pull off the
pickup tube which then required a new gasket for the pickup tube.

 

Also, I think this is the time to install the front and rear main seals. Not
required, but if you screw up the rear and pull the carrier, you will end up
pulling the pan. My memory is fuzzy but it was something like this. Of
course, I learned this the hard way.
