 about buying a low-mi '03 WRX wagon. I know there's a lot of
Subie/Miata crossovers- anyone have any intel I should think on?
Pretty sure the one I'm interested in has the uprated gearbox (wider
gears). Anything else I should be aware of? My '98 Legacy is
getting to the nickle and dime the owner to death stage...

There is no upgraded gear box stock...if the box has been changed, I
would want to know why (6sp conversion rare and expensive,
a newer 5sp with beefier innards I am not sure fits).

02/03 WRXs are the same car. My 02 has 95K on it and is a great OTM.

You are buying the engine and seats: the other parts of the interior are a bit
dated/cheapish on some parts. It was a great value for what it is, but
at 30'something unless you need the car raw I do prefer the 2.5T Legacy
over the WRX (Legacy wagon manuals are hard to find however).

The gearbox is a bit thin for *abuse*. Drive with some empathy (no clutch dumps and massively launches aka: stupid children or drag strips) and it will be fine. If you
abuse it...it can go boom.

The 2.0T is a bit soft...reflash fixes that easily. Stage 2 reflash is an up-pipe/exhaust
and the car really pulls strong to redline (vs stock it tapers above 6K).

Tons of info on the net...www.nasioc.com has lot of forums to search.
