Yeah, I should have indicated the symptoms here. I was tracing down a
peculiar battery drainage and found a frayed wire that was allowing the
headlamps to stay on in the DOWN position. I also noted the low beams would
not
come on. I corrected that; the lights are working properly, and the
battery has been holding charge (it had previously drained completely
overnight
- well, of course! On the plus side, it charged full).

I don't use the car as much as I used to, and I don't visit Miatanet very
much anymore (lack of time), so I'd forgotten whether the headlights would
behave in a peculiar manner if the ignition switch, turn signal stalk, or
the pop-up button were going bad. I'm EXPECTING that I may see some symptoms
in future. I just replaced the ignition switch this afternoon, and that
is a simple procedure except for the one screw that holds the switch in
place; due to the limited working room, one needs a very short phillips
screwdriver or an offset phillips, and I didn't have an offset with me (I used
a
very tiny flathead).

Anyway, What are typical symptoms for the turn signal stalk and the
headlight pop-up button going out besides the obvisous -no turn signals and no
pop-up? That is, are there any symptoms OTHER than no turn signal and no
pop-up?

On another note, I'm replacing the glove box latch now, and I'm not sure
how to get the key/tumbler thingy out of the old latch to put it in the new
one. There are no instrustions in the Enthusiast's Manual in the Interior
section. Has anyone done that recently and can you advise me on how to
remove the old key-set piece (without breaking it)?

Thanks,

Jerry AKA LGO
