I have replaced 3 alternators on my 94 M. I am using guaranteed alternators from a salvage yard. These alternators are still generating, the problem is the bearings. If I tighten the belts to the proper tightness there is a serious knocking and grinding noise that with a stethoscope I can trace defiantly to the alternator. The one now on the car has started making the noise. The belts are approximately 10 turns from tight. I adjust the belts until there is no slippage and stop there.
Has anyone had this problem? Please help. Bruce Andrews
