This car was never FI.  This is the original engine.  

I thought that a leaky valve stem seal could be diagnosed by high vacuum..  
Basically wind the engine out in 1ast gear, take the foot off the gas for a few 
seconds to create high vacuum, then get back on the throttle, and watch for 
smoke.

I guess I should learn how to use that Leakdown tester!

Am I missing something here??  At no time did I see any mention of any FI on 
this engine but the assumption seems to be it has a turbo and it could be 
related to the FI.

Turbo oil seals?  If head gasket or something with one cylinder you would 
expect a power decrease and rough running and/or idle.
Are all spark plugs the same color?
