Some interference is good since many people can't look out for themselves. Requiring passive restraints, housing electrical codes, etc. Yeah, some requirements are dumb, but many are not.
While I'm a bit of a libertarian, I applaud the no smoking in public establishments law WA State enacted years ago. Bars didn't all go out of business and we can now have dinner at the local bar & grill without the wrong type of smokey flavor. So initial reaction can be extreme (and damn, have people gotten extreme lately), but later on, folks often realize it was for the better.
