I retired in August of 2000 after 35 years working on LARGE IBM mainframe computer systems. While at work we were forced to use Windows etc.; at home for my personal use I always used Apple...starting with a IIE and now on a TiBook G4. While still working, I did a lot of trouble shooting for the E-mail system the company used and helped many International MAC users to function just fine after our technical folks said it 'could not be done'.
The old 'FUD' thing (fear, uncertainty and doubt) is still going strong. A friend asked for my suggestion on a 'first computer' and after I made my suggestion, he ended up with a 'second hand' Dell machine that his son gave him. His son told him that his techs said that they could not connect a Mac to their internal network (my friend still goes in to the office one day a week). I suspect they did not want to try and end up seeing how much easier their life would be.
Anyway, I took up the job of 'web design and support' for a Retirees Club and for the local chapter of a national conservation group. I'm not a professional but I do enjoy it!

Many understand; few comprehend.
But it is vital to remember that information (in the sense of raw data) is not knowledge; that knowledge is not wisdom; and that wisdom is not foresight. But information is the first essential step to all of these.
