Forget patchburn - I've had too many conflicts using it in the past.
Better to get a DVD burner that's compatible right from the start. I also suggest the Pioneer. I've got a 108 in a B&W that works great, Boots and installs also. The drawback is that the CD speed (16x?) is much slower than the original 32x drive so if you ever need to boot from an OS disk the boot time is much longer, but works none the less... just sloooooooooooowwwww .
Also forget Other World Computing - their prices are usually MUCH higher than what things can be gotten for else where.
Newegg.com always has the Pioneers for a decent price, Slickdeals.net is a great resource for finding anything at the lowest price posssible, including even a new shower curtain to replace that moldy one you've been unable to part with, you know the one with the little ducks on it. As always - consult the drive compatibility matrix at xlr8yourmac.com for all pertinent and recent info on compatibility and firmware updates, etc.

Anyone using 10.4 yet? any problems? I've got a copy of it here but I've been apprehensive about installing it.
And it was so nice of Apple to disable QT pro function for any version prior to QT7 when you update, unless of course you want to send them more money.

Anyone using the new Photoshop CS2 yet? The new/added features look pretty wild and just what I need.
Unfortunately the copy I received was for a PC! Uggg!

Good Morning Folks.
Tom.

You can get a DVD burner made by Pioneer (which is what Apple uses) and just install it in place of your current CD player/burner. Make sure the firmware is up to date and you're good to go. It's an easy swap out.

Other World Computing (www.macsales.com) is selling them pretty darned cheap these days for an older model and they also provide excellent instructions on installation. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just a very satisfied customer on many fronts.

You'll need software to burn DVDs. Not sure if iTunes will burn to a DVD, I've never tried it. Toast will burn DVDs, and I'm sure there are others.

Namaste,

Hey folks,

A little help if you do not mind. I would like to add a dvd burner to my blue and white. My daughters iTune collection is getting out of hand. What hardware and software is needed to do this? I can handle the mechanics, of installing it If I knew what had to be installed. Could yall fill me in? I have a rev 2 b&w running 10.2.

Thanks

Blake
