I am NOT fond of the Chinese generators, the AVR is lousy and problematic 
and the generators use brushes.

For low power less than 10 KW one may think about a 20-25 HP motor and 
convert it to a generator.

Or to buy a brushless American, European or Brazilian generators.

An ELC will be required in any case to maintain the output voltage regulated 
and/or the frequency.
