If it is of any use, I have measured the output of my car's alternator: 
It starts reaching the nominal voltage (at very little current) when the 
motor turns at 600rpm. At 800rpm it delivers about 10A, and at 1300rpm 
it is already up to its limit of about 45A. It doesn't increase above that.

This alternator is rated at 55A (I guess that's a bit of a wish 
figure!). I would have to measure the pulleys to tell exactly how fast 
the alternator runs relative to the engine, but from looking at it, it 
seems to be about 4 times.

Short conclusion of the above: The alternator in MY car (Nissan 
Terrano), at 6000rpm would already deliver its full output of roughly 45A.
