Hello Group Members, I am a non-technical newbie to your group. Please be patient with my ignorance. I have tried to read past posts to deduce my answer, but think it best to just ask my question. I am purchasing a property on the French Broad River in North Carolina, US. The only data I could fnd on the River talks about kayaking, etc and suggests something about of 24-41 fpm. The only other data I found talks about flow at 2500 cfs. I don't even really comprehend these numbers. Anyway, we will own a small island and there is a run of river between the island and our home on the mainland. The island has a small fishing hut on it. Historically, grid power was run from the mainland to the hut. We'd first like to consider a microhydro system to supply the island with just a tiny bit of power (for a light or two and an incinerating toilet). We wanted to find a VERY simple system to try. We found the Jack Rabbit on the web... considered that. But I don't even know how to convert our cfs and fpm to miles per hour to know if that will work. But, if I'm guessing correctly, our river won't flow that fast. Along the lines of REALLY simple, idiot friendly, easy to set up and maintain... what do you suggest for us? Thank you, Liz
