Here's another newbie question:

I am planning to install my microhydro system as a primary source for
residential power, keeping the local utility as back-up for unusually
low flow, maintenance, or emergency. The switching will be manual on
the separate feeds to the house, either the microhydro or the grid. I
don't plan to sell-back power to the utility here in New York State.

Does anyone know if I must (or if it's advisable to) get my switching
or anything else blessed by the utility before I disconnect from the
grid and go live with my microhydro? Or just wait til they notice I've
stopped consuming and come to see if I'm stealing their kilowatts?
Having gone through FERC and DEC, I'm shy of yet more red tape and
delays.

Rick
