Saturday, 06 March 2010 Town of Saugerties Jackie Bogardus and I encountered at least one, possibly two, Ruby-crowned Kinglets along the Saugerties Lighthouse Trail today, along with a couple of Golden-crowned Kinglets. No RC Kinglets were detected last week during an organized field trip, or on several visits since Frank Murphy reported one from this location on 19 February, so it is uncertain if this was the same bird(s), but likely.
Earlier in the morning, Alan Beebe, Jackie, and I explored the NYSDEC Highwoods Multiple Use Area at the southern end of the Town of Saugerties, where we encountered several Brown Creepers, including one in full spring song, several male Red-winged Blackbirds singing on territory in a marsh along Dutchtown Road, and a singing Winter Wren along the MUA overlook cliff. Common Raven, Pileated Woodpecker, several Golden-crowned Kinglets, and a brief glimpse at a Ruffed Grouse exploding into the air were some additional highlights. Steve M.
