I have never seen an owl while out hiking in my entire life. I've seen them at Zoos, but never out in the wild. That streak ends today with a Barred Owl sighting at Vassar Farm! I got to observe him for a good 25 minutes before he finally decided he had enough of me and flew off. I got pictures to prove it too!
I was at Vassar Farm from about 3pm - 6pm today. Here is the list of every bird I spotted today (Good birding day!): - 6 Northern Flickers - 1 Great Blue Heron - 1 Belted Kingfisher - 2 Red Bellied Woodpeckers - 7 Mallards (5 Male, 2 Female) - 1 Canadian Goose - 3 Brown Headed Cowbirds - 5 Common Grackles - 3 Tufted Titmice - 2 Blue Jays - 1 BARRED OWL!!! - 1 Northern Cardinal - 2 Song Sparrows - 1 Red Tailed Hawk - 4 White Capped Chickadees - 2 Northern Mockingbirds - 1 White Throated Sparrow - 1 American Kestrel - 2 Mourning Doves - 3 Eastern Bluebirds - 1 Tree Swallow - 4 Barn Swallows - 10+ American Robins I'm looking to get out early Saturday somewhere and hope I have this kind of birding luck!
