Bravo to you, Kathryn, for being a pioneer!

My girlfriend Susan lives in San Antonio, so we’ve been doing plenty of solo
flying since reconnecting almost a decade ago. (We met at U. Oregon over 40
years ago, then reconnected via Facebook, then in person after her husband
passed away in 2016.) United has at least one daily SFO-SAT/SAT-SFO non-stop so
we are commuter sweeties.

She was hardly a frequent flier, but beyond infecting her with my aviation
interests I’ve shared my Million-Miler Gold status on United with her so she
gets treated like a frequent flier. On her most recent return to Texas, she was
in 10C, and the person in 10A was a first-time flier and nervous as all
get-out, especially when some turbulence cropped up during descent. They held
hands for comfort of the newbie. Ja, I’m proud of my GF for being at home in
the air and for reaching out to someone who wasn’t.

Two years ago we spent a week in Maui. On the return flight (UA 1722 aboard
N220UA, a 777-222ER), during boarding, I dragged her up front. “WTF?!” The FO
and then the captain offered up their seats for a photograph on her second
flight (that she knows) on a two-aisle aircraft.

(This may be wandering into an NNN.)
