i'm also developing on Fedora 7 64bit exclusively and i'm having no
problems.

some of these issues could be attributed to differences in JDK as well.  you
can use jdk1.6, but all tests must pass under jdk1.5.  most of the
development work that i know of is done using jdk1.5 so it's possible that
you're uncovering issues related to jdk1.6.
