One correction to this mail. Nandini reminded me that while we track
"loan cycle per product" for both groups and loans, we don't track loan
cycle # aggregate at the group level (the # that is incremented when
"include in loan cycle" is turned on). This is only tracked at the
client level.

Thanks Nandini!

Emily.

if"Include in Loan Cycle counter" is not selected

Hi Pramod,

I'm not sure if this will answer your question, but let me try... this
is an answer from a *functional* perspective, not quite sure what is
happening on the code side...

There are two loan counters displayed to the user. The first is tracked
at the client or group level (and is tracked when the "include in loan
cycle" is checked) and the other is tracked at the product level and is
*always* tracked.

http://mifos.org/knowledge/functional-specs/clients#Loan_cycle_per_produ
ct

So, for example, let's say I've successfully repaid the following loans:

3 "Income Generation Loans" (which have "include in loan cycle" turned
ON)

2 Emergency Loans (which have "include in loan cycle" turned OFF)

4 Festival Loans (which have "include in loan cycle" turned OFF)

This is what should be listed in my perf history:

Loan Cycle #: 3

Loan Cycle per Product

               Income Generation Loan: 3

               Emergency Loan: 2

               Festival Loan: 4

We have done testing on the loan cycle counter for v1.1 and it was
working correctly. If I understood the issue correctly...I saw that you
fixed a "bug" that changed where these values were picked up from.
However, I'm worried that you've actually introduced a bug by making
this change.... not sure, but just wanted to call this out.

Cheers,

Emily.

Subject: [Mifos-developer] Loan cycle counter is maintained even if
"Include in Loan Cycle counter" is not selected

Hi,
If you create a loan account based on a product with "Include in loan
cycle counter" not checked, a tuple STILL gets inserted into
loan_counter (or group_loan_counter as appropriate). This loan counter
value increments or decrements depending on whether you disburse or
cancel loans related to that product.

However, in the Performance History section of a Group/Client's page,
such products are not shown (which is entirely correct).

Our question is: why is the counter maintained at all, for these kind of
products, when it is not displayed in the UI or used anywhere in the
business logic?

Also, even if this option is not selected, you can set the loan product
amounts to be based on the loan cycle number! Which looks like a bug to
us.

We couldn't find any other unexpected behaviour in Mifos.

There is some related discussion about this in bug 1734
(https://mifos.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=1734, search for
"Additional comments from emilytucker").

Pramod and Malini,
