Note: When doing the batch changes above I only applied the minimum that I
felt were needed to get it back into 'line' because I was aware of the upcoming
release and didn't want to add more risk at a late stage (i.e. did take
risk/reward into account, wasn't just doing it on a whim).
There were other changes (hibernate configuration of dynamic-updates for
example) that seemed to help 10/15% but because there was a possibly of
side-effects so I didn't apply it. Maybe next time.
