Adam Monsen commented on MIFOSADMIN-284:
----------------------------------------
Most of our monitoring is done via SNMP data collection via OpenNMS. There are
lots of infrastructure pieces, including Apache Solr, which we believe can be
easily added to our existing monitoring infrastructure using the extensible
nature of SNMP.
Here's what I recommend for a spike:
* figure out how to add information to snmp data
** look at adding custom OIDs (or MIBs, or something) to snmpd
* write a script (maybe a Bash one-liner using curl or ps or something) that
ensures Solr is running
* add output of script to snmp data
The goal of this spike would be to discover and document the process of
augmenting snmp data for custom monitoring.
The next spike would involve creating notifications in OpenNMS which would
alert admins when Solr is down.
> use OpenNMS to monitor Apache Solr search engine
