Thank you for that insight Ryan.

I think when they have a system, and then they don't have to wait till the
end of the duration so that they can take the documents as they will already
have a system in which they will be inputting the information and people at
the MFI (Head Office) can get access to it.

Maina,

I'm still not entirely clear about how SACCO's operate, but based on what I
can determine from your e-mail I think it might work as you suggest (Making
the SACCO's to be branches).

If they are given access, they can be limited to only operating in their
SACCO and would operate like any other branch. As for the products that are
specific to their SACCO, I don't see any limitations on that. The only
thing that might not be desirable is that a SACCO could see and use the
products of other SACCOs, but I'm not sure how much of an issue that would
be.

But, it also sounds like the scenario you are talking about is they are
reporting loan performances to the MFI after the loan is completed. Only
issue I see at the top of my head is you cannot disburse loans in the past.
So in that instance, they would want to make sure Loans are being entered
into the system before they are disbursed. Transactions could then be
entered later and back-dated. Unfortunately, this would cause issues when
viewing the portfolio (as it would show tons of loan accounts in arrears,
etc), but there might be ways around this.

I would recommend setting up a Mifos instance and seeing if you can't model
their processes.

Hi Kay

How is works is basically the SACCO's are under the MFI in that the SACCO's
carry out their transactions for the duration then later they hand the
information over to the MFI. So this is the structure

1. MFI
2. SACCOs
3. Centers

I have not gotten all the details from the client so I just wanted to find
out if this will be possible and per se if the SACCOs have individual
products that are not the same across the board.

Hi Maina

Can you explain more about how this works? Would the "head MFI" be
basically managing the information at the SACCO level? How do the SACCOs
operate and what are they using Mifos for? Is there a need to keep
information separate between the SACCO's or what makes them different?

Thanks!
Kay

Morning people,

I hope this email finds you all well.
There is a Microfinance that I think is Quite unique in that for this
Microfinance they loan money to Sacco societies. In that under the
Microfinance we have 12 sacco's. this MFI wants to use mifos and I was
wondering if it will be possible for Mifos to operate in such a place and
how it can be done. I was thinking of putting the MFI as the Head Office and
the different SACCO's as the Branch offices.

If you may have any insight on something I may have overlooked feel free to
share. Thanks

Kind Regards,
Maina Wachira.
