For MFI's / System Integrators who want some adhoc reporting capability
that also can export in spreadsheet format
There isn't any adhoc reporting capability within the mifos product (yet).
You can, of course, use any reporting tool you are familiar with against
the mifos database.
However, for those of you that have installed Pentaho... it comes with an
easy to set up adhoc reporting capability. It's a bit clunky but does
allow reasonable adhoc reporting and exporting to spreadsheet format. We
don't ship anything pre-built for adhoc reporting with mifos BI but its
very easy to set up to meet your specific needs. Also, you don't need to
use Mifos BI in order to install Pentaho and use the adhoc reporting.
Slightly Techy Bit

The simplest way of setting up some adhoc reporting is to log into Pentaho
as the Admin, click New Report and then click the 'add' button to add a new
data source. Basically, just put in and save a sql query that covers the
data you want to do adhoc reporting on
e.g. you could do a "data source" for client status listing, loan
processing , transaction usage
If anyone wants to correspond further with setting up please email me (or
better this list) and we can get past any teething troubles (hopefully
none).
You can save adhoc queries for later use and editing and set permissions.
It is possible to do something which tries to put all mifos data available
for adhoc reporting but I really think its better to follow adding some
specific sql queries that meet some need so that you get started with a
purpose.
