connect you individually with any folks to provide more detailed
requirements (hopefully they see this post on the list too).
On a previous developer call, Vishwas mentioned that Pentaho 4.0 has a lot
better out of the box ad-hoc reporting capabilities -

Has the ad-hoc functionality improved enough to warrant adding in the
