Hi,

I just tried to get a D-Link DWL-520 PCI adapter I purchased the
other day running.

First problem:

ath0 at pci0 dev 15 function 0 "Atheros AR5212" rev 0x01: irq 6
ath0: AR5212 7.9 phy 4.5 rf2112 5.6 rf2112 5.6ath0: no valid channels for
regdomain NONE(32976)
[Full dmesg follows at the end of this mail]

This problem has been mentioned earlier on this mailinglist (e.g.
http://www.monkey.org/openbsd/archive2/bugs/200503/msg00043.html), but
without any solution.

So, after some source code reading and debugging, I changed
ieee80211_regdomain.h to let the driver recognize that regulatory
domain:

Now, it looked much better:

ath0 at pci0 dev 15 function 0 "Atheros AR5212" rev 0x01: irq 6
ath0: AR5212 7.9 phy 4.5 rf2112 5.6 rf2112 5.6, EU2W, address 00:11:95:bb:3f:65

Second problem:

Unfortunately, shortly after configuring ath0 up, the machine just
freezed (no keyboard or mouse input, no remote login).

Three cases:

1. try: X11 running, power LED of the device was on. After

ifconfig ath0 192.168.1.1 mediaopt hostap nwid outback \
                nwkey XXXXXXXXXXXXX

the power and activity LEDs started blinking (indicating an error,
according to the manual), and a few minutes later, I experienced the
freeze and had to push the reset button.

2. After reboot, fsck, etc., with the same data as above in
/etc/hostname.ath0, the system did freeze early during startup (when
running /etc/rc.local). This time I at least got an `ath0: device
timeout'.

3. Reset, boot into single user mode, fsck and mount read-only
everything. Same ifconfig as above, again, both LEDs started blinking.
Then,

        ifconfig ath0 down
        ifconfig -mediaopt hostap
        ifconfig mediaopt hostap

and the system again did freeze (this time without the timeout message).

Any help to debug and maybe fix this problem is welcome. It would
also be helpful if other users with that unknown regdomain problem
could test the patch above, although I've to admit that I'm not
sure wether this patch is the correct way to address that problem.

If it works for you, I'd guess I've some interrupt or hardware
problem.

TIA

Ciao,
        Kili

here's my complete dmesg (with the patched kernel):
