ddrescue or magicrescue? do forensic copying and create a log so
that it can carry on where it left off. It Tolerates read errors and
moves on quickly. Once finished it works backwards on the failed blocks
to recover as much as possible of the skipped sectors. You can re-run it
with the log file to fill in any missing data due to a temperamental
cable or anything else too. You can use it to easily make one good copy
from two damaged RAIDS if you like. Good for scratched cds too ;-).
