I have a similar problem on a new AOpen XCCube with an AMD Sempron (see dmesg). I tried the disabling the pciide as described above. That didn't work, it actually caused the system to panic. I have included the steps i took (it was in the dmesg output). The trace and ps are here also. I don't really need the cd-rom on this system, but hopefully this helps to fix the problem.
