I'm having a problem that I don't know how to resolve on an amd64 system
(full dmesg below) which I just upgraded from 5.4-release to
5.5-release. I've not yet done anything with the system other than
upgrading (from CD), saving and restoring packages and deleting
no-longer needed files (as specified in the upgrade guide), and loading
the source tree from CD. I don't think it's a hardware problem, since
the system has been fine up until now. Any suggestions as to how to
proceed would be greatly appreciated.

I was loading the ports tree from the source CD using
  # cd /usr && tar xzf /mnt/ports.tar.gz
when I got this error:
tar: Access/modification time set failed on: ports/lang/processing/files/CVS:
Input/output error

The only apparently-relevant info I've found in any log file is, in
/var/log/messages:
Aug 18 14:08:08 minya /bsd: ahci0: attempting to idle device
  Aug 18 14:08:08 minya /bsd: ahci0: couldn't recover NCQ error, failing all
outstanding commands.
I'm not sure exactly what is happening when this error occurs, but it's
happened several more times as I've been poking around, including once
during the reboot/fsck sequence mentioned later. It definitely is not
caused by the ls/rm sequence below.

Attempting to do anything with /usr/ports/lang/processing/files produces
weird results:
  # cd /usr/ports/lang/processing
  # ls -la files
    [[~5 second delay]]
  # rm -rf files
    [[~4 second delay]]
  rm: files: Directory not empty

My disk is partitioned as
  # df -hi
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity iused ifree %iused Mounted on

so any problem should be on sd0h. I've rebooted to single-user mode and
run 'fsck -f /dev/sd0h', which showed no errors -- but the weird
behavior of ls and rm persists.

I don't see anything in the errata for 5.5 which looks like it would
affect this. If nobody has any bright ideas, I'll try upgrading to the
latest snapshot and see if that changes anything.
