your tar does not have p nor v, the first keep the right access while
the second is just informative

this really looks like a disk error,
is this your disk :

if not the disk it may be the controller of the disk ..."Intel 6
Series AHCI" but probability is low

did you check the sum of the tar file ? (given gzip is there it is
probably not that.)

And if i am not mistaken fsck check the file system , not all the
sectors of the disk, for this you would have to use something else.

It may also be a bad entry in your ram, using the tar may push file
into rarely used part of memory, showing up a new problem.
