But I'd like to add a comment for clarification.
No need for replying unless you want to correct me.

I would be glad to just accept the auto-allocation, but

"not be a perfect layout"
"a good starting point for figuring out what you need"
"decisions about custom partitioning schemes"

So my reading is:
Don't rely on auto-allocation. It is not bad for an average installation,
but you are warned that you may want to adjust it.
