General questions, but related to OpenBSD. The question from the
opening email is not actually OpenBSD-specific.

There are pros and cons for both mailing lists and websites, but among
the pros: questions, answers and comments on the websites from the
Stack Exchange network follow a stricter format, are audited, better
moderated and more focused. This is in no small part due to the nature
of the medium. Unlike mailing lists, trolling attempts get quickly and
efficiently shut down on Stack Exchange. Also an important quality of
questions, answers and comments on those websites is that they can be
edited. They can also be answered at a later date, while the questions
on a mailing list are quickly forgotten.

Addons like uMatrix exist, if the concern is about things like ads and
trackers.

Another fake "privacy-respecting" thing (in this case, search engine),
which is actually doing the opposite, plus using censorship in an
attempt to shape the opinion of the audience.

I was only trying to help the OP get a better answer in a place more
specialized to the kind of question presented.
