Just to confirm, it wasn't really a 'recommendation' in the sense of it being better or worse than any other such enclosure. The performance is about what I would expect using that combination of enclosure and SSD. Regarding the fact that it doesn't work when connected via usb c, have you tested any other usb c devices? This sounds more like an issue regarding OpenBSD support for your usb controller, (which may even be 'fixed' by tweaking BIOS settings), rather than anything to do with a specific usb device. Note that there is a newer BIOS available for your machine than the one shown in your dmesg.
