Is fw_update the way to go to download firmware files for my intel
wireless card?
Yes.
Run `man fw_update` in your terminal.
All free aka open-source firmware is included in the OS as far as I know (not
sure if it is in a separate fileset or what), and the non-free aka malware aka
CIA NSA, is AUTOMATICALLY installed on your computer by fw_update but it runs
only on installs, upgrades, and 1st boots after those, so if you got a new toy
you should run the command manually.
Just because the source code isn't public doesn't mean it's malicious.
While it is more difficult to be sure with closed-source software than
with open-source software, most people do not audit open-source software
either. Have you audited the source code of all the software you use?
