If it aint broke don't fix it!

Personally I can't abide FVWM and install xfce4, on old hardware I install ctwm.

Somebody mentioned Wayland. I hope that never happens.

As for licensing... Mainly I trust Theo. If he wanted it gone it would be gone.

no
Well since we have ice(4) in base there is a precedent for frozen code :-).
