I hadn't thought of using QEMU. That's quite creative! YAIFO also looks
excellent, but sadly unmaintained.
Seems like a surprising number of people from the BSD and
Linux ecosystems have put a crazy amount of effort and inventiveness
into solving this problem over the years.
Given that fact, I'm amazed the solutions all sort of drop off into
unmaintained obscurity. And then a couple years later someone has to
figure things out all over again, post their approach, and the cycle
repeats.
